Gear Up for the Races |
Coming up in the near future are two new races for two types of racers; Sand drags at Glamis and off-road racing in Carlsbad. San Diego's own SPAR organization will be officiating the 1982 Bracket Championships, along with Budweiser BB Funny Car Challenge, on Sunday, December 12, at the famed Glamis International Sandway. Joining forces with KSIQ radio and the Molly Mate Company of Brawley, SPAR's first championship carries contingencies of $5,000 for the drivers and a Sand Toy buggy chassis to be given away in a drawing to some lucky spectator. Overnight camping for participants will be permitted. Qualifying begins at 9:00 a.m. with the first race at 1:00 p.m. For further information, call SPAR [please remember this is an archive file and this phone number and/or address may no longer be valid ](619) 424-3800 or write 522 Florida Street, Imperial Beach CA 92032. For the off-road racers in the crowd, get your cars ready for January 16, 1983 and be at the four hour desert race on Carlsbad Raceway's closed course. This race is for everyone, with six classes competing: 1,2, 1 and 2-1600 unlimited, 9-5 and 5-1600. Entry fee is $200 plus insurance, with a 60% payback. All pitting will be designated with areas available for spectator viewing.
