Motopro ....... May 2000
When the employees enjoy working at their place of business, it
usually makes for a better shopping experience for their customers.
That is the case with Motopro, the Honda-Yamaha dealership
located in Oceanside.
"Our employees are happy, have good lives and it shows in
their work," said sales manager Mark Bradley. "A happy
staff equals a happy business. The majority of our business is
repeat customers. They see we have a good shop and they keep coming
back. Customer service is number one here."
Motopro carries Honda and Yamaha street bikes, dirt bikes, ATVs,
power equipment and Yamaha Waverunners. They carry all the necessary
desert equipment, even though they are the dealer located furthest
from the desert.
All 16 employees, starting at the top with owner Leonard Melgren,
are still involved in racing in some form or another. Melgren,
a long time North County Coastal resident, currently races motocross
at Carlsbad and has long been involved in the racing program there.
He also does some road racing at Willow Springs in the 125 GP
class. Finance manager, George Dawkins, used to race Harleys side-by-side
with Cal Rayborn. Bradley races District 38, and although a torn
ACL last year has left him side-lined this year, took the number
three plate in the senior class last year. And Service Manager
Kirk Workman's son is a professional watercraft racer. The whole
shop rideS and there are experts in each field who work there.
In the service department are technicians Cruiser, Al and David
and service writer Blair. According to Bradley, they are some
of the best and knowledgeable in the business.
In the parts department is Parts Manager Steve Isenhower with
parts persons Eric, Tim and Jeremy. "We try to concentrate
on the local riders," said Bradley. "There is a dealer
about one every ten miles. So we concentrate on Carlsbad, Encinitas,
and Oceanside. Steve is very involved in the CMXR Series at Carlsbad
Raceway. He put together all the prizes they earn and the hole
shot T-shirts they get for winning the hole shot. We also sponsor
Tim Beaty on a YZ250 and up-and-coming women's motocross racer
Aubriana Dunn on a YZ125.
"We don't have big parties or a Gold Wing chapter because
it takes away from the customer. We take care of the people who
come back all the time."
Motopro prides itself on its customer service and being a friendly,
clean place to shop. They stress professionalism and having the
expert staff to take care of whatever your motorcycling or watercraft
needs are.
