COW MOUNTAIN

DIRECTIONS: From Ukiah, take State Highway 101 south to the Talmage exit. Go east on Talmage Road about 1.5 miles. Turn right at East Side Road. Travel less than 0.5 miles to Mill Creek Road, which is on the left. Continue east on Mill Creek Road 3 miles to turnoff for the North Cow Mountain Area and 5 miles for entrance to South Cow Mountain. Obtain a free map at the BLM office in Ukiah of the Cow Mtn Recreation Area. Travel trailers are not recommended on any of the roads leading to the South Cow Mountain area.
GENERAL INFO: North Cow Mountain Recreation Area is managed primarily for non-motorized activities. South Cow Mountain Recreation Area emphasizes OHV use. over 120 miles of vehicle trails interweave 23,000 acres and offer challenges to motorcycle, ATV and four-wheel drive enthusiasts alike. There are two developed campgrounds and two OHV staging areas to help make your visit enjoyable.
SEASONS: There may be seasonal site closures to prevent damage to the roads and trails. The best times to visit are fall, winter and spring.

SPANGLER HILLS

DIRECTIONS: From the south, use US 395 to the town of Red Mountain and then take the Trona-Red Mountain Road 7 miles north to the boundary of the OHV area. Teagle Wash, a great place to unload and begin your riding is another 2 miles north. From the City of Ridgecrest, take the Trona-Red Mountain Road from SR 178. Spangler can also be accessed from within the City of Ridgecrest by traveling south approximately 3 miles on College Heights Boulevard to the OHV area north boundary.
GENERAL INFO: Food and fuel are available in Ridgecrest. The nearest medical facilities are located in Ridgecrest at the Ridgecrest Regional Hospital. BLM Rangers frequently patrol the OHV area to offer assistance and information. The most popular staging area is Teagle Wash, located east of the Trona-Red Mountain Road on BLM Route RM143. This site provides a large area for camping, unloading, free play and staging competitive events. Camping is permitted anywhere in the open area, but is limited to a maximum of 14 days. Green Sticker OHV registration is mandatory for all vehicles which are not street legal.

RASOR OHV AREA

DIRECTIONS: The riding area is between I-15 and the Mojave National Preserve about 25 miles southwest of Baker. Access roads are Basin Road and Rasor Road east of the I-15. Both of these roads are graded dirt roads.
GENERAL INFO: Rasor OHV Area is an exciting and more remote area for the motorcycle, ATV, dune buggy and 4WD off-highway vehicle user. The area has rolling hills, open valleys and sand dunes that invite the rider willing to travel to this area. Elevations range from about 2,427 feet elevation down to about 1,275 feet at the Mojave River. Besides the remote nature of the area, another attraction is the historic Mojave Road which runs through the riding area into the newly designated Mojave National Preserve (street-legal vehicles only in the preserve).

STODDARD VALLEY OHV AREA

DIRECTIONS: The riding area is in the wedge formed by I-15 and California Highway 247 (Barstow Road) south of Barstow. Most visitors access the area to the east off I-15 at the Outlet Center Drive exit (Sidewinder Road) or at the Hodge Road exit. From California 247 (Barstow Road exit) about 10 miles south of Barstow, turn off on Stoddard Wells Road or 15 miles south of Barstow at the access route behind the Slash X Cafe. All of these entrances are dirt roads.
GENERAL INFO: Most of the area visitors ride motorcycles or ATVs or tour the area in four-wheel drive vehicles. The easily accessed area off the Sidewinder Road are used extensively for OHV free play. The area is also used extensively for racing events by permit. Stoddard Valley is a diverse landscape punctuated by steep red rocky mountains, rolling hills, open valleys and wide winding sandy washes. Elevations range from Stoddard Peak at about 5,000 feet to Turtle Valley, with an elevation of about 2,800 feet. Camping is allowed with a 14-day limit. No shooting allowed.

JOHNSON VALLEY OHV RECREATION AREA

DIRECTIONS: The riding area is off Highway 247 (Old Woman Springs Road) and Camp Rock Road, about 55 miles southeast of Barstow or about 25 miles east of Victorville. Most visitors access the area off Camp Rock Road driving north off of Highway 247. Staging for many competitive events is at Anderson Dry Lake, about 10 miles north of Highway 247 just east of Camp Rock Road. There is also access north of Highway 247, driving east toward Yucca Valley, at Bessemer Mine Road (to get to Soggy Dry Lake) and Boone Road. All of these roads are graded dirt roads.
GENERAL INFO: The 189,000-acre Johnson Valley OHV Recreation Area offers outstanding trails for competitive off-highway motorcycle racing, enduro and trial events, and day play-riding. Sloping bajadas, narrow canyons, flat dry lakes, sand dunes and twisting trails through low rocky mountains provide a variety of experiences for all levels of riders.

EL MIRAGE OHV RECREATION AREA

DIRECTIONS: The riding area is located west of the town of Adelanto, between US Highway 395 and the Los Angeles County line. Most visitors access the area from US Highway 395 in Adelanto by taking Crippen Avenue west and following the signs toward the town of El Mirage. Just east of the community of El Mirage, Mountain View Road goes north from El Mirage Road and enters the El Mirage OHV Recreation Area. A sign at this intersection directs visitors to the recreation area
GENERAL INFO: Most visitors ride motorcycles or ATVs, or tour in four-wheel drive vehicles. There is a road network in place so visitors can camp in most of the sections of El Mirage. This area is also used extensive for competitive racing events and commercial filming by permit. Because of its unique flat surface, the El Mirage Lake Bed is the destination for many visitors.
