The California Association of Four Wheel Drive Clubs has announced that it will host an Off Road and Outdoor recreation Exposition at the Yolo County Fairgrounds in Woodland CA, February 16-18, 2001.

"We are very excited about this event and we plan three full days of activities that will include outdoor vendor displays, outdoor seminars, food booths, clinics and a series of notable guest speakers to address outdoor issues," said Bramham. "We know that outdoor recreation is about families, so we plan to put a lot of energy into events and activities that include family participation."

Picking Up Garbage Has Never Been So Much Fun!

The First Annual Gordon's Well/ I-8 Hill Clean-up held Sunday, A0pril 9, was a great success. Participants arrived at the Pair-A-Dice Restaurant and Store at 8 a.m. to check in. Volunteers from Team Bohica, the group that organized the clean-up, set up tables to give away raffle tickets, sign players up for the poker game, give away donated gifts and pass out important dune users information.

Three checkpoints were manned by the Team Bohica Group, the Dumpsters, the Camp area and I-8 hill. Garbage bags were donated by the BLM and could be acquired at the checkpoints, or by the four BLM trucks driving around the camping area, or the Team Bohica truck at I-8 hill. A special beach dragger was running back and forth at the bottom of I-8 Hill to dig up hidden garbage.

Over 600 bags of garbage, rusty barrels and car parts were hauled to the extra dumpster the BLM brought in for the cleanup. At noon, the 200 plus participants arrived back at the Pair-A-Dice to enjoy a free lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers donated by Southwest Powersports, the Pair-A-Dice and Chicken Bob. Organizers gave out more raffle tickets for garbage brought in and dealt hundreds of poker hands. During lunch, over $2500 worth of donated prizes were raffled off to the happy garbage collectors.

Prizes were donated by: Southwest Four Wheel Drive (Phoenix), Southwest Powersports (Phoenix), Pair-A-Dice Restaurant & Store (Gordon's Well), Team Bohica (AZ/So Cal), KD Cycle (Yuma), Banshee Shack (Gilbert AZ), Musselman Honda (Tucson AZ), Star Cycle (Tucson AZ), Skat Track, Douglas Wheel, Chicken Bob (Phoenix), Motoworld, Torco Oil, Advertising Edge (Santee), Parts Unlimited, San Diego Off Road Magazine, Sand Tires Unlimited, Kisner Plumbing (Truxton AZ), Antigua Sportswear (Scottsdale AZ) and Karl's Kustom VWs (Phoenix-Mesa AZ).

Safe or Sorry?

Acerbis has the answer for why women should wear the Lady Fusion chest deflector over any other.

Of course there are many chest deflectors to choose from but it's not a matter of style, it's a matter of safety. Other than the Lady Proton and and the New Lady Fusion all chest deflectors are designed to fit men. Becuase of the way the female body is shaped, men's chest deflectors do not fit properly on women. It may not be apparent while trying ton the deflector in the store or even while riding, but it will be very apparent after a crash.

During a crash a men's chest deflector usually moves up on the female body and puts pressure on the neck area. The result could be a bruised windpipe or maybe even a serious neck injury. Movement of the deflector could cause other areas to become exposed. A woman's deflector will most likely keep these areas protected. Most women are sized in between children and men's size and that makes getting a good fit from a deflector difficult.

The Lady Fusion was designed specifically to fiill this gap in sizees. New features like the suspended shoulder allow for more freedom of movement while riding without affecting the opsition of the deflector on the body. The kidney and upper arm guards help to maximize the amount of upper body protection.

Acerbis has developed a chest deflector anatomically shaped specifically for the female rider's needs. Style is also important and Acerbis has taken that into account in the design of the Lady Fusion. With the silver and black color pattern it will compliment any riding gear.

Year 2000 Annual Desert Clean Up Report

A big thank you for everyone that participated in the annual FudRace desert cleanup. Each year a group of volunteers meet to combat our worst enemy, trash! We make it a point to keep the areas where we have our Start/Finish and main pit locations as clean as possible after each event, however Trash happens. Sometimes the wind defeats our best efforts to keep everything spic and span and there is also the small percentage of users that feel it's the Dez so who cares about litter. We do!

Therefore, an annual Desert Cleanup is necessary. As usual the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) furnished us with trash bags and then they hauled off the garbage. This year was especially gratifying because there was not much trash to pick up. Our past efforts seemed to have discouraged those that use the Dez as a dump. There were no more sofas, refrigerators, washers and dryers to remove. Even the number of used tires was way down.

We had volunteers from all aspects of desert lovers: Bike, ATV and Car racers, spectators, pit crew members, girlfriends, wives, dids and contributors that donated funds to help pay for the supplies even though they couldn't attend.

The following deserve a round of applause for Cleaning the Dez: Billy Middleton, Bill McNeer, John Ross, Allen White, Allen White II, Lolitta White, Keith Naylor, Jordan Saasta, Bryan Saasta, James Saasta, Danny Naylor, Matt Clark, Fud, Toad Saasta, Jason Fields, Robby Bell, Bob Bell, Scott Higgins, Chava Macias, Brea Swierk, Mike Naylor, Todd Mason and his many friends and a big thanks to Bob Thompson for his generous donation to the refreshment fund.
