Sign-Up Booth ....... August 2000

I picked up a Honda Service Manual recently and glanced through it.

I just wonder who those folks at Honda think they are.

On the very first page, the first paragraph under "How To Use This Manual" says: "This service manual describes the service procedure for the CR250R."

It goes on to say that it is very important for you to perform the first scheduled maintenance. And I can't help but wonder, "Just whose schedule are we talking about?" Have they checked with my schedule or are they assuming I will follow their schedule?

Who are they to impose their beliefs on me about what is best for my motorcycle? I mean, who paid for this thing? I don't see them giving the motorcycles away free. If it's my hard-earned money forking out the bike payment each month, why do I have to let them dictate to me how best to take care of my own motorcycle? Shouldn't that be for me to decide? Don't I know what's best for my own bike?

Foolish thoughts? Absolutely.

In fact, the motorcycle manufacturer does know what is best for the motorcycle they built. I would be a fool not to follow their guidelines. They don't want anything but the best performance out of the motorcycle they built and that's why it comes with guidelines.

Same thing for humans. The Creator wants only what's best for us. That's why He, too, provides a "service manual." It's called the Bible. But sadly, many people pay more attention to the service manual for their motorcycles and engines than they do the Bible.

If it's good enough for your off road vehicles, then apply the same rules to your life, where the consequences of making wrong decisions are much greater than just a blown engine.

Start a new habit today: Use the "service manual" every day. You'll be surprised at the difference it will make.

He has given you His commands so you may prosper and live life to its fullest measure. - John 14:24
