Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area

GENERAL INFO:
One of eight State Vehicular Recreation Areas, this 3,600 acre area is among the most popular and unique of California State Parks. The 5 « miles of beach open for vehicle use and the 1,500 acres of sand dunes available for off highway motor vehicle recreation are attractions for visitors from throughout the United States. Oceano Dunes is the only California State Park where vehicles may be driven on the beach. Surfing, swimming, surf fishing. horseback riding and bird watching are also popular activities. Passenger cars can easily drive on the northern portion of the beach. Four wheel drive vehicles are recommended for driving to the camping and off highway vehicle use areas in the park. Beach wheelchairs are available for loan at the Pier and Grand Avenue entrances to the beach.

CAMPING:
Camping is primitive, with only toilets provided. Campsites may be set up anywhere along a 3 « mile length of beach or in the areas of the dunes open to off highway vehicle use. Camping is permitted year round. Campsite reservations may be made between May 15th and September 15th.

The recreation area is located in Oceano, three miles south of Pismo Beach off Highway One. OPERATING HOURS:
Day use: 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily; Camping: 24 hours daily Fees: Day use fees are $4/vehicle; Camping fees are $6/vehicle per night. No additional fees are charged for off highway vehicles towed or transported into the SVRA.

CLIMATE:
Summer temperatures - Highs: 60's and 70's; Lows: 50's; Dense morning fog. Winter temperatures - Highs: 50's and 60's; Lows: 40's; high winds in Spring
