Fud's Crud - April 2000

Rule 1: Have fun. Rule 2: If you are not having fun, refer to Rule 1.

These are actually the first two rules of the District 38 rule book. Over the past few weeks we have been rudely awakened once again to just how these rules should apply to life. Because, life can change in less then a heartbeat.

At the King of the Desert ATV Expert, Brian Kizer crashed and was seriously injured. For a while he had us very worried about whether he would make it or not. A very big thank you to Erica DeHoyos for keeping us informed on his sometimes hour by hour ups and downs. Today I am happy to report that he has gone home and would love to hear from you.
The tragic news was the death of Cooper Jancic. His future was so filled with so many promises I looked forward to watching his meteoric rise to the top and seeing just how far he could ascend. In just his third season of racing he had one Championship Title, "Overall and Pro 250 Class Champion" 1999 FRT Superstition Championship Series and this January upset the world renowned riders with a victory in a race in Tecate B.C.

In his first season, 1998, he caught the eye of Vet racer Bill McNeer. He asked Cooper to team with him for a race. When Coop found out how old he was he reacted with a typical youthful reaction like, you are how old? You see Bill was nearly twice his age. Thus started a bond where youth and skill absorbed everything that old age and treachery could teach him. This also opened up a door to friendship with the older competitors that very few make gracefully. The natural age difference usually prevents much intermingling. Bill McNeer gave him instant approachability and from then on his natural personality took over. Everybody was his friend, even if he didn't know them. However, the grim reaper does not pay any attention to who you are. A single slow speed truck accident near his home in Poway has left us only fond memories.

Both the Kizer and Jancic families have set up trust funds. The addresses are available somewhere in the magazine.
Therefore refer to Rule 1. Let life be fun! Way too many people have never had a happy thought. They have decided that if they are miserable, then they are going to be sure that when you are around them, you will be too. I enjoy the comics in the newspapers and jokes. They make me laugh. When I laugh I feel good and want to make other people smile too. Listen to what people have to say instead of trying to figure out how to one up them during the time they are talking.
You know what, I think I am drifting into rule 2 so I am going to go have some fun!

Which brings me to my address, 250 Kennedy. It is the only street I have ever heard of that has even numbers on both side. What! That's right and I don't know why, however I have had some fun with it. Most people do not pay attention to directions. After finally finding the address they exclaim "Did you know that both sides of the streets have even numbers?!" I usually respond with, "I forgot that today is Wednesday and the property owners are required to change the numbers on the North side of the side to even one's every Monday, Wednesday and Friday." You should see the weird looks I get.

There used to be a big wooden sign out front with 250 Kennedy on it. It has been dead meat for so long I forget about it. The Vulture, Dean Dlouhy, made a delivery the other day and then sent me some E mail about how hard he had to look to find that sign. Only a Vulture could find something that dead for years! I wonder where it is?

The good news continues: "Fast Juan" Gregory won the 2000 San Felipe 250. 1st ATV. Congratulations!
