El Cajon Cycle ....... April 2000

"We have the largest inventory of used ATV and dirt bike parts in San Diego County,
" says Kurt Hook, owner of El Cajon Cycle.

What is the benefit of buying used versus new? You can purchase the parts for up to half of the original cost and sometimes at even greater discounts than that. "It's nice being across the street from a new dealer," Kurt says, "People find out what the price is for new parts and then come here and buy the used parts."
Another benefit to buying used parts is that sometimes new parts are not readily available for older model machines. "Ninety-five percent of the time we can find a part," Kurt says, "no matter how old." And if they cannot locate it in their own 6,000 square foot facility they have immediate access to computer aided searches of the entire nation and Canada. "Our computer system is better than the internet," Kurt says. "A lot of times we can find the obscure parts people are looking for." If a part is located out of state it is just a matter of days before you can pick it up at El Cajon Cycle.

In addition to used parts, about 40% of their business comes from the new parts they carry in another portion of the store. These parts include most motorcycle accessories, tires and wheels and apparel. Their service department offers tire changes and minor motorcycle maintenance. "We do at least 20 tire changes a day," Kurt says. And if you purchase a new set of tires, they will mount them for free.

Five employees work with Kurt who has "been riding since I was very little. I started on an XR75 and have been doing it ever since."

The store is open six days a week, including weekends. Their hours are Tuesday-Friday 9-6; Saturday 9-5 and Sunday 10-3.
If you have never experienced being in a salvage yard, you should take the time to check this one out. It's worth it just to dig through their bolt collection. Thousands of bolts are there just for the taking. No charge. And while you're there you might see some other parts you can use at a substantial savings over the price of new parts.

The majority of their inventory you can check through yourself to find the particular part you need. For some things, electronic parts for instance, Kurt or another employee will check through those for you.

El Cajon Cycle is a licensed salvage company and is located at 685 El Cajon Blvd. in El Cajon. You can call them at (619) 440-8596.
