Larry
Collie of Crest, passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, January
10, 2001
He was 51 years old. Larry had recently been diagnosed with lung cancer. He will be remembered by everyone as a great son, father, husband and friend to everyone.
Larry grew up in the South Bay area, went to Castle Park High School. He was an Eagle Scout and recipient of a National Dale Carnagie Life Saving award.
Larry was a motorcycle legend in
the late 1960's and early 70's. Not only as a rider but he was
also one of the best mechanics of his time. At 17 he was a fixture
at Beach Cycle Center and cut his racing teeth at Dehesa Park
and South Bay Speedway. Larry won flat track and TT races and
championships from Arizona to the legendary Ascot Park in Los
Angeles.
He rode a number of Baja desert races and was unbeatable in his day. He also was in on the ground floor of Jet Ski racing while service manager at San Diego Kawasaki in the middle 1970's. Larry had been working at his home based shop, Motorized Creativity, for the past 20 years.
Larry will be missed by many, but one thing is for sure, he lived life 110% and didn't get cheated. He is survived by a loving family and hundreds of friends.
